COLLABORATION WITH DAISY LEE - FINAL POSTER

“Steven has been a fantastic help to the pre-production process of our new short film “More Than Meets The Eye”. The poster has stunned us all and is now currently being prepared for printing on leaflets, postcards and full-size cinematical posters. The team are very grateful for Steven’s help and he is truly talented in Graphic Design”.

COLLABORATION WITH DAISY LEE

The Brief

For an experiment, I want to work with a photographer or someone like yourself who has an interest in a specific type of photography. Many fashion designers have worked with graphic designers to produce something that is amazing and well known yet what they produce isn't for the fashion industry.

Together with my chosen photographer we will work together to produce either imagery for a band's album cover (there are a choice of 2) or a film poster. They are both live briefs and the albums will be produced and the film will shot and shown at a cinema with our posters displayed about the cinema. I think it's a Ritz cinema.

I want to record how two creatives work together along with a band or film director to produce a piece of work that feels 'right'.

At present you have full choice to work on either one of the album covers or the film poster.

Here's a link to the website of the Manchester music label Invisible Girl

Here's a link to Strangeways Studios myspace. It is based in Salford and is apart of the newly formed SWAYS Record label. A SWAYS website is under construction.

Here are links to a few bands that are signing up with SWAYS records:

There isn't too much on the film website (SWL Media) as it too is under construction. But they are professional and get funding from many sources and have produced adverts, video campaigns, short movies, etc as well as getting lots of FREE clothes from FASHION companies to use for the actors costumes!

What I have asked both record labels and film company to do is to send me a brief via email that tells us what exactly what they want us to do and what image to go for. SWL Media have already sent me a brief along with a filming script that I can email to you if you like? I should receive the other briefs soon. When I do I can forward them.

In a nut shell, do you as photographer want to help me to make an album cover or film poster? You can use this also for your own GARP if you want!

Film Poster Brief and Script

Here is a brief given to me by SWL Media to create a film poster for their upcoming film: More Than Meets The Eye.

I will work with a separate photographer to complete this brief and record how we work together, overcome problems, devleop our initial ideas, etc.

Meeting With Daisy

Daisy and I met again a week later and she brought along her portfolio to show me examples of her work and I showed her my work on my blog.

Daisy was also keen to have a blog and so we created her a blog of her own: colourfulmonochrome. I love Daisy's photography and I was excited about our collaboration. I explained that there were a number of briefs for us to choose from and so I gave Daisy a copy of each brief that I had been given along with the other documents I had been given by our 'clients'. We arranged to meet again in a week so it gave us both time to think about the briefs and make notes of any initial ideas that we have may.

Daisy and I finally find the time to meet and begin discussing and sharing our initial ideas and thoughts on the briefs. By this point, it had already been pretty much decided for us (for one reason or another) that we were going to be working together on film poster brief for my cousin and SWL Media.

After reading the script and listening to the audio files given to use by SWL Media I tell Daisy the first thing I think of is the film The 6th Sense (1998). The story, the mood, along with other elements all point to that movie. We Google the title and examine the posters:

I remember the poster for the Mothman Prophecies (2001) as I remember ink blot (

Rorschach)

A psychological test in which a subject's interpretations of a series of standard inkblots are analyzed as an indication of personality traits, preoccupations, and conflicts.

To me there is more than meets the eye with ink blots and it was this idea I wanted to incorporate into our design. We googled images of ink blots and optical illusions - imagery that played tricks on the eye:
